Business Registration and Startup Compliance

Getting a new business set up with the registrations it actually needs — and not the ones it does not. We will tell you which apply to your situation before you spend money on them.

What is included

Proprietorship setup

Getting a sole proprietorship operational: the registrations that give it a usable legal and banking identity, and the documentation your bank will ask for when opening a current account in the business name.

MSME and Udyam registration

Registration on the Udyam portal, which is free, quick, and the basis for accessing priority sector lending, government tender eligibility and protection under the delayed-payment provisions.

Business PAN and TAN

PAN where the structure requires its own, and TAN where you will be deducting TDS — which becomes necessary as soon as you are paying salaries above the threshold or making certain payments to vendors.

FSSAI registration

Food licence applications for manufacturers, traders, restaurants and cloud kitchens, at the level appropriate to your turnover and operations.

Startup documentation

The paperwork a new business needs in place early — invoice formats that are GST-compliant, basic agreements, and a document trail that will not embarrass you in front of a bank or an investor later.

Basic ongoing compliance

Once registered, the recurring filings that come with each registration, so a registration obtained does not become a default six months later.

Who this is for

  • Anyone starting a business and unsure which registrations are actually required
  • Freelancers formalising what has until now been informal work
  • Food businesses needing an FSSAI licence
  • Businesses about to hire and needing TAN before running payroll
  • Existing businesses that registered for something and never filed against it

How it works

We start with a short conversation about what you are actually going to do — what you sell, to whom, where, and whether you will employ anyone. That determines the list. We then tell you which registrations are mandatory, which are optional but worth having, and which are irrelevant to you, along with what each costs and how long it takes.

Once you decide, we prepare and file the applications and follow them through to the certificates being issued.

Common questions

Is a proprietorship actually "registered" anywhere?

Not as an entity, and it is worth being clear about this because a lot of websites are not. A sole proprietorship has no separate legal existence from you — there is no certificate of incorporation to obtain. What you do instead is obtain the registrations that give the business a working identity: GST where applicable, Udyam, a Shop and Establishment registration depending on your state and premises, and the PAN and bank account arrangements your bank requires. When we say proprietorship setup, that is what we mean.

Should I be a proprietorship, an LLP or a private limited company?

It depends on whether you need limited liability, whether you are taking outside investment, and how much compliance you are willing to carry. A proprietorship is the simplest and cheapest to run; a private limited company costs meaningfully more each year in filings but is usually necessary to raise institutional money. If a company or LLP is the right answer for you, that involves MCA incorporation, which is a separate process — tell us and we will point you to it rather than talk you into something that fits what we do.

Do I need Udyam registration?

It is not compulsory, but it is free and takes very little effort, and it is what makes you eligible for MSME benefits — including the statutory protection on delayed payments from larger buyers, which is genuinely useful if you invoice big companies.

What is TAN and when do I need one?

TAN is the number you need in order to deduct and deposit TDS. You need it once you start making payments that require deduction at source — most commonly salaries above the threshold, but also rent, professional fees and contractor payments over certain limits.

Who needs an FSSAI licence, and which type?

Anyone manufacturing, storing, transporting or selling food, including home kitchens and online sellers. Which of the three levels applies depends on your turnover and whether you operate in more than one state. We will confirm the right one rather than applying for a higher level than you need.
